9 inches of snow being measured Friday outside the KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot studios
The snowfall that started Thursday night and continued through Friday afternoon did not break any daily records, but it was still a significant amount as 2025 enters the top 10 for snowiest Januarys.
At KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot, the official reporting station for the National Weather Service in Mountain Home, 7 inches of the wintry mix were measured at 7 Friday morning, and another 2 inches followed. The 9 inches of total snowfall have moved this month into an five-way tie for the eighth-snowiest January with 1970, 1987, 1996 and 2023. The snowiest January on record was in 1918 when 26.2 inches were measured.
In addition, those two days have put the Twin Lakes Area above the monthly and annual average for snowfall. Mountain Home is currently 7.1 inches above January’s average of 1.9 and 1.2 inches higher than the yearly average of 7.8.
