Sales tax continues to see slight increases in February

Baxter County and the City of Mountain Home continued to see slight increases in sales tax collected for the month of February.

According to the Mountain Home Director of Finance and Treasury, Alma Clark, the city collected a total of $645,555 in city sales tax revenue for February which is an increase of 0.9701% for the month. Year-to-date, the city has seen a total increase of $6,594 or 0.5420%.

Figures released by Baxter County Treasurer Jenay Mize show Baxter County’s revenue portion equals $542,705. This time last year, Baxter County received $535,255 which is an increase of $7,450 or 1.4%.

Sales tax reports are released by the state Department of Finance and Administration two months after the taxes are collected by area businesses. The following numbers were received in February, which reflect area spending from the month of December.

Mountain Home received $293,580 in county sales tax. When compared to last year’s total of $289,550 which is a increase of 1.3919%. The year-to-date increase equals $5,797 or 1.0428%.

Other Baxter County cities receiving revenue from the county’s sales tax include:

– Gassville, which received $49,696;

– Cotter, which received $20,281;

– Lakeview, which received $17,740;

– Salesville, which received $10,827;

– Norfork, which received $10,644;

– Briarcliff, which received $5,402; and

– Big Flat, which received $2,014.

Baxter County received $238,223 in revenue from its 0.25% sales tax for maintenance and operation of the Baxter County Detention Center.

Mountain Home received $242,083 from its 0.375% sales tax to support its police and fire departments. At this time last year, the city received $239,757 which is a monthly increase of 0.9702%. The year-to-date increase is nearly $2,473 or 0.5420%.

Mountain Home has collected $322,777 for February from the park improvement sales tax, which is $104,603 more than needed for Bond Payment of $218,173 for 2025.

Park operation sales tax for February equals $161,388.
