
High school basketball makes up much of the local Saturday schedule as Mountain Home’s girls are among seven area teams looking to advance to next week’s state championship event in downtown Hot Springs. The Lady Bombers will return to Greene County Tech High School in Paragould to meet the host Lady Eagles in the semifinals of the Class 5A State Tournament.
Mountain Home is 26-6 on the seaosn as they come off a six-point win over Nettleton in their quarterfinal game on Friday. Tech began the second round of the tournament Thursday night as they picked up an eight-point victory over Beebe to improve to 30-2.
The term of the week for Mountain Home head coach Dell Leonard has been “Lady Bomber Grit,” and he says they will need that again on Saturday.

This is the second meeting this season between the two teams. Mountain Home defeated the Lady Eagles 57-38 Dec. 12 in the Red Dog Invitational at Springdale.
Tip-off at Eagle Arena is scheduled for noon. Saturday’s game will be broadcast on Classic Hits 101.7 and streaming live at ktlo.com and the Bomber Sports Network on YouTube.

Both of Izard County’s teams will return to Cedar Ridge High School in Newark for the semifinals of the Class 2A State Tournament. The Cougar boys face Tuckerman at 1:30, and the Izard County girls take on Quitman at 6.

Two area teams will compete in the semifinals of the Class 3A State Tournament on the south campus of North Arkansas College in Harrison. Melbourne’s boys play Lamar at 1:30, and the Mountain View girls will be paired with Dover at 6.

Two area girls’ teams will take part in the semifinals of the Class 1A State Tournament at Trumann. Rural Special tips off with Greers Ferry West Side at noon, and Jasper meets Earle at 6.

In Missouri, district play continues for two area girls’ teams.
West Plains will be back in Willard for the semifinals of the Class 5, District 6 Tournament. The Lady Zizzers face Springfield Hillcrest at 2:30.
Branson will be in the semifinals of the Class 6, District 5 Tournament at Ozark. The Lady Pirates take on Nixa at 1.
