A Baxter County man is facing seven charges, five of them felonies, after an altercation with his longtime girlfriend in which he assaulted her and she was shot during a fight over a gun and then he sent her threatening text messages. Being held in the Baxter County Detention Center is 37-year-old Tyler Chase Tedder of Briarcliff. He was arrested March 21 in Stone County, Missouri and extradited back to Baxter County.
According to the probable cause affidavits from the Baxter County Sheriffs Office, the incident happened March 8. The victim told investigators she and Tedder had been arguing, so she left the house. She returned several hours later to get some things and he met her at the end of driveway and a physical altercation took place while she was still in her car. During the fight, Tedder had a gun and the victim tried to take it away and she was shot in the upper leg.
The victim says Tedder then got in the car and drove her to the house but took her phone and told her not to call anyone about the incident. The victim got clothes and told Tedder she was going to see a paramedic friend about her gunshot wound. He allowed her to leave and gave her her phone back.
The victim went to the hospital and there met with investigators. While there, Tedder was texting and pleading with her not to call the police. He tells her he is sorry, but in all of his texts, the investigator notes, Tedder never asks how she is doing. The victim told the investigator she and Tedder have been living together for 16 years.
The emergency room doctor told law enforcement the bullet went through the thigh and did not strike bone or vital arteries.
Over the next several days, the victim sent investigators multiple text messages Tedder sent her, and to other people whom he wanted to share with her, with threatening messages, including doing bodily harm to her.
In one message, Tedder says “I will not be getting caught by the police. I have absolutely no issue staying a fugitive on the run because that is much much better than 40 years in prison.” It was three days after he sent that text when he was arrested.
