A Baxter County man who had spent just over one month in the Baxter County Detention Center on three misdemeanor charges was let out of the jail Friday night. He was free just under 12 hours before he was back behind bars, this time on seven charges, five of them felonies, after he went on a stealing spree. Twenty-two-year-old Caide McCoy Curry of Clarkridge is being held on $75,000 bond for his latest crimes.
According to the probable cause affidavit from the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, three calls to 911 were made within 21 minutes Saturday morning to report thefts from the Clarkridge area. One of the callers had the suspect in custody. When the deputy arrived, the suspect was identified as Curry.
The first victim reported when he awoke he noticed his ATV missing, along with a gun from his truck. He found Curry who was wearing his riding boots.
Curry told the deputy he left the helmet at a camper down the road and a large pile of stuff on the side of the road. The other items included guitars, a laptop computer and a tablet which were taken from his grandfather’s home. While searching Curry, the deputy found numerous keys, along with three smart phones also taken from his grandfather’s home. Curry told the deputy, “I don’t take this stuff to get in trouble.”
Another victim reported she saw Curry looking in her window at her. She grabbed a shotgun and chased him off.
During an interview with an investigator, the grandfather said they discovered the missing items but did not want to press charges. He said Curry does not understand it’s wrong to take other people’s belongings.
Curry is facing felony charges of residential burglary, two counts of breaking or entering, theft of property over $5,000 but less than $25,000 and theft of property less than $2,500. Misdemeanor charges include criminal trespass and voyeurism.
