It was announced earlier this week curbside pick up of recyclables in the City of Mountain Home by Waste Connections, formerly Methvin Sanitation, will end at the end of June. In Tuesday’s news, we heard from Mountain Home Mayor Hillrey Adams talking about the situation.
Today, we hear from Baxter Day Service Center Executive Director Paul Neal. The center receives all of the recyclables taken in from the city. Neal says several factors went into their decision to stop the program.

Neal says another factor was the fact there was so much trash and dirty recyclables put into the recycle bins.

Neal says another part of the decision is the declining number of clients they have at the center who work.

He says they used to have over 60 and they are at 40 currently.
Neal says losing the nearly $1,700 monthly from the recycling contract with the city will hurt the center. He says they do some recycling jobs for Baxter Healthcare. They also get $50,000 in funding annually from Baxter County, but they do not get any direct support from the city.
He wanted to emphasize their commercial cardboard program will continue and residents will still be able to drop off their recyclables off at the center on Rossi Road. He asks that the recyclables be clean and no trash be left.
