Thursday results include MHHS softball team losing regular season finale at Greenwood

The Mountain Home High School softball team ended up losing its regular season finale on Thursday. The Lady Bombers went to Greenwood and were edged out 3-2.
Chloe Bohannon suffered the loss as she pitched six innings and struck out two batters. Daelyn Harper led Mountain Home as she was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, and Libby Dewey and Emma King each went 1-for-3.
The Lady Bombers fall to 12-10 on the season and 8-5 in the 5A-West.

The Class 1A Region 1 Softball Tournament got underway at Keller Park in Mountain Home.
Norfork, the designated host school, watched its season come to an end in the final game of the evening. The Lady Panthers fell to Magazine 20-3.
Lead Hill was also one and done in the tournament. The Lady Tigers suffered a 20-0 defeat at the hands of County Line.
Jasper will be the Lady Indians’ next opponent in the semifinals. The Lady Pirates secured a state tournament bid with a 10-7 win over Western Yell County.
Omaha was eliminated from the tournament in the third game of the day. The Lady Eagles lost to Scranton by a final of 15-0.

Two area softball teams returned to the Equity Bank Sports Complex in Harrison for the opening day of the Class 2A Region 1 Tournament.
Cotter ended up clinching a state tournament berth. The Lady Warriors were able to shut out Johnson County Westside 10-0.
Ozark Mountain was bounced from the tournament in the opening game. The Lady Bears fell to Hackett with a 15-0 decision.

Four area teams went to Cave City for the start of the Class 3A Region 2 Softball Tournament.
Yellville-Summit’s season ended in the third game of the day. The Lady Panthers lost to Rivercrest by a score of 10-0.
Salem will be the Lady Colts’ opponent in Friday’s semifinals. The Lady Greyhounds advanced as they breezed past Hoxie 9-1.
Melbourne was able to dominate the opening game of the day. The Lady Bearkatz blanked Manila with a 10-0 victory.
Melbourne’s next matchup in the semifinals will be with Walnut Ridge. Mountain View fell to the Lady Bobcats 3-1.

Two area softball teams were at West Side High School in Greers Ferry for the opening day of the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament.
Viola was eliminated in the tournament’s opening game. The Lady Longhorns suffered an 11-2 loss at the hands of Marked Tree.
Calico Rock picked up an easy win in the last game of the day. The Lady Pirates routed Maynard by a score of 15-5.

Two area schools competed in the first two games of the Class 2A Region 2 Softball Tournament at Sloan-Hendrix High School in Imboden.
Izard County will be playing in next week’s state tournament after their win in the opening round. The Lady Cougars topped Buffalo Island Central 15-6.
Izard County’s semifinal opponent on Friday will be Riverside. Marshall lost to the Lady Rebels 16-1 in the first game of the day.

Norfork is also hosting the Class 1A Region 1 Baseball Tournament as it’s held at Clysta Willett Park in Mountain Home.
The Panthers had an easy victory to guarantee themselves a spot in the state tournament. Norfork pounded Western Yell County 20-0.
The Panthers’ next opponent in the regional tournament will be Magazine. Lead Hill was edged out by the Rattlers with a score of 18-17.
Omaha’s season came to an end in the late afternoon game. The Eagles ended up losing to Scranton by a final of 20-6.
Jasper will be the Rockets’ next matchup. The Pirates dominated the last game of the evening by destroying Mulberry 22-12.

Two area baseball teams joined their softball counterparts in Harrison for the Class 2A Region 1 Tournament.
Cotter’s season ended as they came up a little short. The Warriors fell to Danville by a final score of 9-6.
Ozark Mountain did not fare any better in the first game. The Bears lost to Hackett 28-1.

Three area teams were in Cave City for the Class 3A Region 2 Baseball Tournament.
Flippin was one and done in the tournament. In a battle between Bobcats, Flippin ended up falling to Walnut Ridge 7-1.
Melbourne will be Walnut Ridge’s next opponent. The Bearkatz will have a spot in the state tournament after defeating Rivercrest 12-3.
Valley Springs was eliminated from the opening round in a close game. The Tigers were edged out by Harriburg 2-1.

Two area baseball teams went to West Side High School in Greers Ferry for the first day of the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament.
Viola was bounced in the second game of the day. The Longhorns suffered a 14-4 loss at the hands of Marked Tree.
Calico Rock suffered the same fate as Viola. The Pirates’ season ended after falling to Hillcrest 11-1.

Izard County won its opener in the Class 2A Region 2 Baseball Tournament at Sloan-Hendrix High School in Imboden. The Cougars squeaked by East Poinsett County 6-5.

In other baseball action, Gainesville picked up a 6-2 victory at home over Seymour.
