Hughes hired to coach girls’ basketball, cross country, track at Calico Rock

A long-time coach in north central Arkansas will be departing the Viola School District after the current school year. Jason Hughes has been hired to coach girls’ basketball, cross country and track at Calico Rock High School.

Hughes says he is looking forward to his new opportunity.

Hughes is wrapping up his second stint at Viola after being there for a total of 15 years. He will be leaving after coaching girls’ basketball, softball, golf and volleyball and serving as the athletic director. Hughes, who has also coached at Flippin and Cave City, says he’s been fortunate to have coached the athletes that have come through his programs at Viola.

With his new position at Calico Rock, Hughes is able to cut back on some of the duties that he had at Viola, and it will allow him to be at home more often.

Hughes says he expects to meet with some of his new athletes this week. His first official day on the job will be July 1.
