
A total of 14 area teams will be competing in this week’s state tournaments for baseball, softball and soccer when they get underway Thursday.
The Mountain Home High School softball team will be in Benton for one of the opening games of the Class 5A State Tournament. The Lady Bombers’ opening opponent will be the host Lady Panthers. Mountain Home enters the tournament as the fourth-seeded team from the 5A-West. Benton is the champions of the 5A-Central. The first pitch is scheduled for Thursday morning at 10.
Two area softball teams will compete in the Class 2A State Tournament hosted by Palestine-Wheatley. Cotter meets Tuckerman Thursday at 10, and Izard County faces Acorn at 5:30.
Two area schools will take part in the Class 1A State Softball Tournament at the Equity Bank Sports Complex in Harrison. Calico Rock takes on Bradford Thursday at 12:30, and Jasper will follow with a 3:00 game against Taylor.
Two area softball teams will participate in the Class 3A State Tournament hosted by Greenland. Melbourne plays Lincoln Thursday at 12:30, and Salem will be paired with Booneville at 3.
Two area schools will compete in the Class 1A State Baseball Tournament at the Equity Bank Sports Complex. Norfork gets underway with Columbia Christian Thursday at 10 on Pippin Field, and Jasper meets Mount Ida at 5:30 on Jack Williams Field.
Izard County’s baseball team will take part in the Class 2A State Tournament hosted by Palestine-Wheatley. The Cougars face Johnson County Westside Thursday at 12:30.
Melbourne will participate in the Class 3A State Baseball Tournament hosted by Greenland. The Bearkatz will take on the host Pirates Thursday at 5:30.
Both of Mountain View’s soccer teams will be in the Class 3A State Tournament hosted by Maumelle Charter. The Yellowjacket boys play Haas Hall-Bentonville Thursday at noon, and the Mountain View girls will be matched up with Life Way Christian at 2.
Harrison’s girls will be in Hot Springs for the Class 5A State Soccer Tournament. The Lady Goblins meet Maumelle Thursday at 10.
