MHHS alum hired as new girls’ basketball coach at Viola

Leslie Henderson, a 1983 graduate from Mountain Home, has been selected as the Viola girls’ head basketball coach. Henderson spent 25 years as the Watson Chapel girls’ basketball coach, before retiring over a year ago. The former Leslie Marler says she is excited to return to the north central part of the state and get started as the Lady Longhorns’ new coach.

Henderson was inducted into the MHHS Athletic Hall of Honor in 2013, and this summer, she’ll be enshrined into the Arkansas High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame. During her time at Watson Chapel, she led the Lady Wildcats to five state championships.

Henderson speaks about what made her come out of retirement so quickly.

Henderson says she expects to hold a few practices during the last week of the month and then start on their summer schedule. She is succeeding Jason Hughes, who will be leaving Viola for Calico Rock.
