A thirty-four-year-old man facing charges stemming from an altercation with jail staff in August last year appeared in Baxter County Circuit Court Monday (May 5).
Tyler Michael Oliverio pled guilty to charges of aggravated assault, second degree battery and impairing the operations of a vital public facility and was sentenced to six years-probation.
Oliverio’s attorney had earlier asked the court to order psychological examinations of his client to determine if he was fit to proceed in his cases and that he could understand and appreciate the criminal charges filed against him.
His attorney withdrew the request for the examination on Monday and said his client was ready to plead to his charges.
Oliverio told the court that when he had been involved in the activities that led to his charges, he was off the medicines he took to deal with his mental problems.
During court appearances, he often verbally expressed strange thoughts. During one session, he made a request several times to be called the “Archangel Michael.”
He told the court Monday he was now taking the medications as prescribed and that they were helping him control his behavior.
