
A former athletic director for the Mountain Home School District has been hired for the same position at Benton. Jerry Bridges was hired at Benton during a special meeting of the school board Monday night. Bridges served as Mountain Home’s Athletic Director from 2001 to 2004 before leaving to become the boys’ basketball coach at Cabot. He is a member of the Arkansas High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame and has won state championships with three different teams in three classifications.
Benton recently hired Dr. Chris Nail as their new superintendent. Nail is a former coach, who formerly coached at Yellville-Summit and whose wife Caroline was a former Assistant Superintendent at Mountain Home. Bridges says he has known Nail for many years and is glad a friend of theirs got them together.

When it comes to the athletics at Benton, Bridges says the programs are all in very good shape.

Bridges and his wife Lori still live in Cabot for now. He helps his family run the Arkansas Alligator Farm and Petting Zoo in Hot Springs as well.
The 62-year-old Bridges started his coaching career with one year at Mena Junior high and then he had stops at Caddo Hills, Morrilton, Fort Smith Southside and Cabot. He won state titles with Caddo Hills, Morrilton and Cabot and had a state runner up finish with Southside.
He starts his new job at Benton July 1.
