Arkansas State Police (ASP) are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Friday after Cabot police attempted to stop a stolen vehicle, authorities said.
The incident began around 2:55 p.m. when Cabot Police tried to stop a stolen Land Rover on South Rockwood Road. The driver, identified as 23-year-old Zion Jackson of Forsyth, Georgia, fled the scene, prompting a police pursuit, according to a news release from state police.
Officers attempted to use spike strips to stop the vehicle, but Jackson evaded them and allegedly drove toward officers, who then fired their weapons.
Jackson continued onto John Hardin Road before the vehicle became disabled in a roadside ditch. He was taken into custody without further incident. No officers were injured.
Police said Jackson was wanted by Conway Police in connection with an April 19 shooting at the University of Central Arkansas, where he faces charges of committing a terroristic act and first-degree battery.
The Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division is preparing a case file to submit to the Lonoke County prosecuting attorney, who will determine whether the officers’ use of force was legally justified.
The investigation is ongoing.
