The Norfork School Board had a busy session Tuesday night including hiring a new high school principal, selecting a new board member and setting dates to interview four finalists for their open superintendent position.
The board hired Brooke Chapman as the new high school principal. Chapman has been at Norfork since 2022 as their EAST and business teacher. She replaces Jason Williams who resigned at the end of the school year.
The board selected Steve Braun to fill a vacancy left when former board member Chad McGowan resigned earlier this month. The board had four people apply for the position and asked constituents for their input on the four via an online survey. Braun had 43 of the 93 responses, or 46%, according to new School Board President Josh Davis. The next closest applicant had 23 votes. Davis says it was pretty evident Braun has the support of most of the district.
The other big item facing the Norfork School Board is finding a new superintendent after they bought out former superintendent Chip Layne earlier this year. The board received nine applications for the job and had narrowed the list down to four, although one of them has rescinded their application as of Wednesday. The remaining applicants, in alphabetical order, are:
Richard Blevins – Interim Superintendent at Norfork
Amanda Green – Dyslexia Specialist with Ozarks Unlimited Resources Educational Service Cooperative in Harrison
Sherry Patterson – Junior High Social Studies Teacher at Southwest City School in the McDonald County, MO. School District
Vanessa Thomas Jones, the Curriculum Director at Flippin, whose resignation there was accepted Tuesday night, has rescinded her application for the Norfork superintendent’s job.
The remaining three will be interviewed next week. On Monday, Green will be interviewed. Then Patterson and Blevins will have their turn on Wednesday. The interviews will be held in the cafeteria and will last one hour each with the first 30 minutes being in front of district patrons and the second half hour in executive session with the board.
Also during the Norfork School Board Meeting Tuesday night, they hired McKenzie Tolbert as a paraprofessional in the elementary and Ryan Terrill as a custodian in the elementary. They also gave Elementary Principal Stacey Bradbury permission to hire a library aide.
Blevins says they still have several positions to fill including a boys’ basketball coach, baseball coach and high school custodian.
