Arkansas advances to NCAA Super Regional with 8-3 win over Creighton

No. 3 national seed Arkansas secured a spot in the NCAA Super Regionals with an 8-3 victory over Creighton on Sunday night in the Fayetteville Regional championship at Baum-Walker Stadium.The Razorbacks (46-13) hit four home runs and leaned on dominant pitching to claim their 11th Super Regional appearance in program history. With the win, Arkansas also set a school record with its 35th home victory of the season and will host the next round against the winner of Monday’s Knoxville Regional final between Tennessee and Wake Forest.

Starter Gage Wood struck out a career-high 13 batters over six innings, allowing three runs on five hits. Reliever Gabe Gaeckle followed with three scoreless innings, striking out seven and walking none. The duo combined for 20 strikeouts and held Creighton (43-16) to five hits with no walks.

Logan Maxwell homered twice and drove in three runs to lead the Arkansas offense. Justin Thomas Jr. added a three-run shot, and Ryder Helfrick contributed a solo homer. Helfrick was named Most Outstanding Player of the regional after hitting three home runs in the tournament.

Creighton’s only runs came on a three-run homer in the fourth. Arkansas responded with a triple by Charles Davalan in the sixth to cap its scoring.

The Razorbacks, the highest-seeded team remaining in the tournament after No. 1 Vanderbilt and No. 2 Texas were eliminated, will host the Super Regional beginning June 6 or 7.
