The Arkansas State Police (ASP) is hoping cell phone date can help in locating Grant Matthew Hardin, the man who escaped from the Arkansas Department of Corrections North Central Unit at Calico Rock May 25. The ASP was granted a search warrant for cell phone data from May 25 through May 30 within a five-mile radius of the prison. They received the data May 31.

In the affidavit and application for the search warrant by the State Police, they do not ask for communication data, only location data. The ASP is checking data from the four companies that serve Izard County which include AT&T, T-Mobile, US Cellular and Verizon in hopes it can help them find where he may be hiding.

Hardin escaped the afternoon of May 25 when he was dressed as a law enforcement officer, walked to an exit gate, the gate was remotely opened from the control tower and Hardin left on foot. The affidavit filed by the ASP for the search warrant mentions it is not known if Hardin received outside assistance in escaping or if he was assisted in leaving the area by vehicle.

Hardin was sentenced to 30 years in prison in 2017 for first degree murder. In 2019, he received a 30 year sentence for rape.
