The Arkansas Activities Association has released the classification numbers that will take effect beginning in August 2026, and there will be some changes that affect teams around the area.

There are two different sets of classification numbers, one for football, and one for every other sport. In the football classifications Mountain Home (6A) , Harrison (5A), Highland (4A), and Izard County (2A) will remain in their respective classifications, while Yellville-Summit will move up from class 3A to 4A and Mountain View will move down from class 4A to class 3A.

One change in football is that it appears Greenwood, currently a 6A-West conference opponent, will drop down to 5A depending on how private schools such as Little Rock Catholic, Pulaski Academy and Little Rock Christian perform this fall. Their competitive equity factor could classify them higher than the Bulldogs and move them from 6A to 5A.

In the “”Other Sports”” classification numbers, only four area schools will change classifications. Harrison, who is a 5A-West conference foe of Mountain Home, will move down from class 5A to class 4A, Clinton will move down from 4A to 3A, Sloan-Hendrix will move up from Class 2A to class 3A, Mammoth will move up to 2A from 1A.

These numbers are set to run from the fall of 2026 through the spring of 2028. The classification alignments will be announced by AAA after each sport concludes in the upcoming season.
