A local Independence Day tradition will mark 40 years wowing visitors of Lake Norfork this Thursday with a show that promises to be bigger and better than ever.

The Lake Norkfork Independence Eve fireworks show between the Highway 101 and 62 bridges is scheduled to return at dark on Thursday evening with musical accompaniment provided by KTLO’s sister station, 99.7 The Boot.

The show is hosted annually by the Lake Norfork Fireworks Association and event coordinator Shawn Egan says due to their unique setup with a flotilla of barges on the lake they can provide one of the biggest displays in the state.

Egan says some years there are so many boats on the water that one could almost walk among them but with the lake being up this summer there is plenty of room for everyone to get around safely. Estimates are that over 10,000 people attend both on the lake and by vehicle as many watch from the bridges. Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery says his officers have developed a smooth system to keep traffic moving after the show ends.

To commemorate the 40th year since families like the Grace’s from Cranfield Marina and the Griffin’s from 101 Boat Dock first pooled their funds together to host the show the organizers are planning a show that will deliver the biggest display ever.
