Members of the Sharp Family at Tuesday’s dedication
Local officials, Mountain Home Fire Department (MHFD) personnel, contractors, members of the Sharp Family and the community gathered Tuesday morning for the official dedication of the Sharp Family Fire Station 2 on Highway 62 East in Mountain Home. The new state of the art facility was given a “wet down” ceremony with hosed water used to spray down the building. The tradition goes back to the days of when horse drawn equipment was hosed down after a fire call and symbolizes an official dedication of new fire stations while honoring the tradition of those who have served as firefighters.
Contractors receive check from Mayor Adams representing the station is completley paid for.
A symbolic check of over $4.5 million was presented to the 22 contractors on behalf of the city demonstrating the new facility was completely bought and paid for by the taxpayers of the city. Mountain Home Mayor Hillary Adams spoke to KTLO News and says Tuesday’s dedication also happened to line up with another milestone for the MHFD.

The land for the new station was donated by members of the Sharp family who’s decedents settled the land in the early 1900s when a German colony occupied the area that is now the east side of Mountain Home. The station was named in honor of the Sharp Family and their legacy in the area. For Sonny Sharp and his family giving back to the community that has given so much to their family embodies the sense of community that drew his ancestors to the area.

For Mayor Adams the gift by the Sharp Family represents how the community is always stepping up to answer the call when there is a need.
Listen:
The 10,800 square foot station will have four firefighters on duty with three 80 foot bays to accommodate the larger modern trucks that the department uses. Training facilities are also at the property and the plan is to have five trucks setup and ready to serve when called upon.
