A Marion County man has been arrested for assaulting his girlfriend and jerking the wheel of the vehicle while she was driving, causing the vehicle to skid off the road. Thirty-nine-year-old Donald Dewayne Dean of Yellville is facing three charges for the incidents, two of them felonies.
According to the probable cause affidavit from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, the victim told the investigating deputy she and Dean were arguing outside and he shoved her to the ground. She went inside to get her phone to call law enforcement, but he took her phone and Apple Watch so she couldn’t.
Later that evening, they were driving to pick up her vehicle from the repair shop. They started arguing again and Dean grabbed the wheel and jerked it towards an oncoming semi on Arkansas State Highway 206. The victim regained control and told Dean she was driving to the sheriff’s office. They continued arguing and Dean again grabbed the wheel, causing the vehicle to skid off the roadway.
The victim says she tried to get out of the vehicle, but Dean grabbed her and started choking her and put his elbow in her throat. He told her he would let her go if she would settle down and she agreed.
The victim says Dean has gotten physical with her three other times and she has pictures of the injuries. The deputy noted a bump on her head, bruising on her arms and legs and redness and swelling on her throat.
Dean is charged with aggravated assault on a family or household member, terroristic threatening and first degree interference with emergency communication. He is free on $7,500 bond.
Dean has a previous domestic battery arrest out of Marion County in 2015. He was sentenced to 48 months of probation in a negotiated plea deal in that case.
