A Florida man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash involving two tractor-trailers last year on Interstate 30 near Glen Rose, Arkansas, authorities said.

57-year-old Richard Volz of Callaway, Florida was extradited to Arkansas earlier this week after being held in Florida on unrelated charges, according to the Arkansas State Police.

Volz is accused of fleeing the scene of an Oct. 22, 2023, crash that killed then 23-year-old Anthony Valdez of San Antonio, Texas. Valdez had been operating a flatbed tractor-trailer when the collision occurred around 1:15 p.m. near the 108-mile marker on I-30 westbound.

Investigators said Volz was identified as the driver of the second tractor-trailer involved in the crash. During an interview with investigators, Volz reportedly admitted to being involved in a road rage incident that led to the fatal collision.

He was taken into custody Wednesday and booked into the Saline County Detention Center. Volz faces a felony charge of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident. Additional charges may be considered pending a review by the Saline County Prosecutor’s Office.
