
Beginning with the 2027 season, a major change will take place in the high school baseball world. A double, or “safety”, first base will be required in high school baseball games to minimize the risk of collisions by runners and fielders. This rule revision was one of the 10 proposed by the NFHS Baseball Rules Committee during its annual meeting in Indianapolis.
Mountain Home Director of Athletics Mitch Huskey says this change has been a point of discussion for a while in the state of Arkansas.

Huskey says while the double first base is required for all schools across America by 2027, Mountain Home will try to implement the base early.

Mountain Home Baseball Head Coach Greg Crow says the double base at first will make the game safer but, overall, won’t change the game hardly at all.
