Van Buren police officer arrested for internet stalking of a child

The Arkansas State Police Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, in coordination with the Van Buren Police Department (VBPD), Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, and Homeland Security Investigations, has arrested a Van Buren police officer, charging him with felony Internet Stalking of a Child.

Jason Scites, 45, of Van Buren, was taken into custody on Monday, July 21, 2025, following an investigation that uncovered evidence of inappropriate online communication between Scites and a minor.

Scites was relieved of duty and transported to the Crawford County Detention Center.

VBPD Chief Jonathan Wear terminated Scites after his arrest and has formally submitted a request for decertification to the Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training.
