The St. Louis Cardinals have traded two-time All-Star reliever Ryan Helsley to the New York Mets in exchange for three minor league prospects, the team announced Wednesday.

The Cardinals acquired infielder Jesus Baez and right-handed pitchers Nate Dohm and Frank Elissalt in the deal.

Baez, 20, signed with the Mets in 2022 as an international free agent out of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. In 241 minor league games, Baez has reached High-A Brooklyn, where he is batting .243 with 30 home runs, 136 RBIs and 29 stolen bases over his career. He ranks No. 6 among Mets prospects, according to Baseball America, which also rated him as having the best arm in the organization.

Dohm, 22, was a third-round pick (82nd overall) by the Mets in the 2024 MLB Draft out of Mississippi State. The Geneva, Illinois native has a 3-5 record with a 2.87 ERA across 18 appearances between Single-A St. Lucie and High-A Brooklyn. He has recorded 77 strikeouts in 62.2 innings and is ranked No. 25 in the Mets system by Baseball America.

Elissalt, 23, was selected in the 19th round of the 2024 draft out of Nova Southeastern University, the same school that produced Cardinals pitcher Miles Mikolas. The Miami native has a 4-5 record and 3.02 ERA over 21 appearances (seven starts) in his first professional season, along with a 0.99 WHIP and 10.5 strikeouts per nine innings.

Helsley, 30, has appeared in 275 games for the Cardinals since his debut in 2019. Drafted in 2015, he was the longest-tenured player in the St. Louis organization.
