The Kings of West Plains claimed the championship at the Battle for the Belt coed softball tournament over the weekend, defeating the Dream Team 23 to 13 in the championship game.

The tournament brought together a competitive field of coed teams, with games played throughout the day Saturday. The Kings advanced through pool play to earn the 1 seed, and won their first game of bracket play to make it to the championship.

The 3 seeded Dream Team took on the 2 seeded Trash Pandas in bracket play, with the Dream Team able to hold on and secure a 21 to 20 win, setting up a high-scoring championship matchup against the Kings.

After a back and forth game through the first 5 innings, the Kings pulled away in the sixth inning, using a string of extra-base hits and timely fielding to build and maintain a double-digit lead. The Dream Team made a late push but couldn’t close the gap.

With the win, the Kings secured the tournament’s championship belt and bragging rights until the next event.

Tournament organizer, Kyle Mueller says the turnout was strong, and plans are already underway for a fall edition of the event.
