The Twenty-Third Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has determined two Cabot Police Department officers acted lawfully in a May 23 officer-involved shooting.

According to investigators, officers attempted to stop a stolen Range Rover driven by Zion Jackson, 23, of Ward, on South Rockwood Road. Jackson fled, leading police on a chase and allegedly driving toward officers after evading spike strips. Both officers fired their weapons, though Jackson was not injured.

Jackson, a convicted felon, was wanted in connection with an April 19 shooting at the University of Central Arkansas. Officers later found two guns hidden on him.

Following an Arkansas State Police investigation, Prosecuting Attorney Chuck Graham wrote in an Aug. 7 letter to CPD Chief Scott Steely that the officers “reasonably believed” Jackson was using deadly force by attempting to hit them with his vehicle and were “fully justified under the Arkansas statutory law of self-defense.”
