Dry conditions in August have prompted some counties in North Central Arkansas to issue burn bans.
As of Thursday morning Izard, Fulton, and Sharp counties have issued burn bans. On Wednesday the city of Briarcliff listed a burn ban within city limits.
A dry July and August are prompting local officials to issue the bans. No rain has fallen yet in Mountain home during August with July 28 being the last date rain was recorded with 0.67 inches falling at KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot the official weather reporting station for the National Weather Service. That rain event marks the only rainfall recorded in 30 days with the previous day for rain being July 15.
Baxter, Marion, and Boone counties are not under bans at this time but according to the Arkansas Forestry Division are in a moderate danger for wildfires. Burning should be avoided if possible and extreme caution used when doing so.
