
The latest unemployment numbers from the Arkansas Division of Workforce Services and the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center show June’s unemployment rates in north central Arkansas and southern Missouri had some big spikes, several as much as one full percentage point, in all but one county in June when compared to the May numbers. Taney was the only county in the area that saw its number go down.
In Baxter County, the rate increased from 3.7% in May to 4.4% in June. Baxter County’s rate is tied for the 33rd lowest out of Arkansas’ 75 counties. There are 768 unemployed Baxter County residents out of a work force of 17,392.
Marion County’s rate went up from 5% in May to 6% in June, which is tied for the 8th highest rate in the state. Marion County has 330 residents out of work from a labor force of 5,494.
Fulton County’s unemployment rate increased from 4.2% in May to 5.1% in June, which means they are tied for the 52nd lowest rate in the state. Fulton County has a labor force of 4,132 and 211 are unemployed.
The unemployment rate in Izard County went up from 5.1% in May to 6.1% in June, which has them tied for the 7th highest unemployment rate in the state. There are 247 Izard County residents unemployed out of a work force of 4,080.
In Stone County, the rate increased from 4.7% in May to 5.7% in June. That ranks Stone County tied for 64th in the state. There are 4,200 in the labor force in Stone County with 239 unemployed.
Searcy County’s unemployment rate moved up from 3.6% to 4.2% in June, ranking them tied for 21st lowest in Arkansas. There are 139 people unemployed in Searcy County out of a work force of 3,315.
Boone County saw its rate slide up from 3.3% in May to 4% in June, putting them in a tie for the 13th lowest rate in the state. Boone County has a work force of 16,765 with 666 out of work.
Newton County is tied for the state’s 42nd lowest unemployment rate at 4.6%, up from 4.1% the previous month. Newton County has a labor force of 2,716 with 124 of those unemployed.
Arkansas’s state unemployment rate in June was 3.7%, the same as the previous month.
In southern Missouri, Ozark County’s rate went up from 5.6% in May to 6.3% in June. Ozark County had 213 unemployed out of a workforce of 3,399.
Douglas County saw its rate slide up from 4.3% in May to 4.8% in June. Douglas County has a labor force of 5,154 with 249 unemployed.
Howell County’s rate went up from 4.6% to 5.4% in June. In Howell County, there are 913 unemployed out of a workforce of 17,039.
Taney County’s rate had a decline from 4.7% in May to 4.6% in June. Taney County’s labor force is 29,614 with 1,362 unemployed.
Missouri’s state unemployment rate increased from 3.9% in May to 4.4% in June.
