Sonny Sharp, a longtime Baxter County resident and active board member of the Baxter County Historical and Genealogical Society, will be the featured speaker at the Society’s next public meeting, scheduled for Tuesday  at 6, at the Donald W. Reynolds Library. His volunteer work includes helping establish the Rollins Hospital Museum in Gassville, leading efforts to restore downtown Cotter, organizing Cotter’s Fall and Trout festivals, and assisting with fundraising and construction of the Library itself. More recently, Sharp has been instrumental in the creation and day-to-day operation of the current Baxter County Historical Museum at 300 Bomber Blvd. where he is one of two members to open and close the building each day it’s open to the public.

Sharp retired from federal service in 1995 and has since played a key role in preserving local history and supporting community development. In a recent interview with KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot News, he discussed his current role at the Baxter County Historical Museum and highlighted recent updates that are expanding the museum’s ability to preserve and share the county’s history.
