For the 79th time the Bombers and Goblins faced off against each other on the gridiron on Friday Night. In front of a packed house at Bomber Stadium the Mountain Home Bombers took down the Harrison Goblins for a 3rd straight year, a feat that had not been done in 42 years.
Mountain Home would put a stop to the Goblin offense to start off the contest. After trading punts Mountain Home was able to take flight at the 3:25 mark in the 1st quarter with a 14 yard touchdown pass from Brantlee Phillips to Carter Adkins to put the Bombers on the board. Mountain Home would force another stop and take over on offense, with a drive capped off by an 8 yard scamper by Phillips for another touchdown for the Bombers to go up 14-0. The next time Mountain Home possessed the ball Phillips would connect again with Adkins in the end zone for another touchdown to put the Bombers up 21-0 heading into the halftime break. The third quarter was not the most aesthetically pleasing quarter of all time for either side and both the Bombers and Goblins would be held scoreless in the 3rd quarter. Business picked up quickly in the 4th quarter as Phillips and Adkins would connect once again for a 36 yard touchdown. Harrison finally broke the seal as Gavin Jones connected with Braden Bryant for a 13 yard touchdown. After a PAT that was blocked by Blake Vacco, Mountain Home would still hold a 28-6 lead. Mountain Home would then put in their 2nd string offense to close out the game. The first play from scrimmage saw Eli McNutt force a fumble and scoop his own forced fumble up for a touchdown, although a holding penalty would negate the touchdown to keep the score at 28-6. On 4th down Harrison’s Lucas Brumley hauled in a 36 yard touchdown reception that bounced off the helmet of Mountain Home defensive back Hunter Estes. After a Killian Eddings 2 point conversion the Bombers lead was shrunk down to 14 with 50 seconds remaining. After a failed onside kick attempt Mountain Home was able to kneel out the clock to close out the victory for the Bombers 28-14.
Mountain Home’s Brantlee Phillips would finish the game 19-27 passing with 191 yards in the air and 3 touchdowns. Phillips would also rush for a touchdown of his own. Barrett Miller did not reach the endzone this week but did tack on 83 yards on 15 attempts. Carter Adkins helped lead the aerial attack for Mountain Home bringing in 7 receptions for 64 yards on the night.
Mountain Home moves to 2-0 on the season and will be on a bye week next week. They will return to the gridiron on September 18th as they’ll venture into the show-me state to take on Rolla.
