
The Mountain Home Lady Bomber volleyball team took on an old conference foe on Thursday. The Mountain Home Bombers and Jonesboro Hurricane renewed a long time rivalry on Thursday at Hurricane Volleyball Gymnasium.
The night began with the 8th grade Lady Bombers defeating the Annie Camp Whirlwinds 2 sets to 0 by the scores of 25-16 and 25-17. The Junior High Varsity continued their hot streak and swept the Whirlwinds 25-18 and 25-19. Mountain Home’s Shayn Wickersham had 25 digs and Dawson Harper led the attack with 8 kills. The Junior High Varsity Lady Bombers move to 7-1 on the season and 4-0 in conference.
In the lone JV set Mountain Home was defeated 25-22.
The varsity match saw Mountain Home control a good chunk of the first set getting out to a 19-16 lead. Jonesboro would score 9 of the last 11 points to take the first set 25-21. Jonesboro would lead wire-to-wire in set 2 winning 25-19. The Lady Bombers, with their backs against the wall, came out swinging and got out to a 10-2 lead and looked to be in cruise control.
The Lady Bombers would then see their lead dwindle down to 5 as they still led 23-18. Jonesboro would then land the knockout blow and score the final 7 points to take a 25-23 win and close out the 3 set sweep of Mountain Home. The Lady Bomber attack was led by Annyston Crooker who had 9 kills and 3 blocks. Cara Jackson finished with 20 assists. And Mountain Home’s back row duo of Lauren Rauls and Maddie Simmons finished off with 19 and 15 digs respectively.
Jonesboro improves to 5-1 overall, Mountain Home falls to 3-5 on the capaign. In 5a-east action Marion crushed Valley View 3-1, Searcy swept West Memphis 3-0, Paragould went across town to sweep Greene County Tech 3-0, and Batesville took down Nettleton 3-0.
