Early deficit too much for Bomber baseball in state tournament loss to GCT

The Mountain Home Bomber baseball team was unable to overcome an early deficit Thursday, falling to Greene County Tech 9-1 in the Class 5A State Tournament at Greene County Tech.

Despite collecting four hits to Greene County Tech’s three, the Bombers surrendered five runs in the opening inning and trailed for the remainder of the game.

The Golden Eagles took advantage of several walks in the first inning to build the early lead. Brodie Ryan and Brooks Robinson each drew bases-loaded walks before Colton Haywood added a two-run groundout. Luke Cancilla later drew another walk to make the score 5-0.

Greene County Tech added another run in the third inning when Kason Scott drew a bases-loaded walk.

Mountain Home recorded four hits in the loss as Jax Wescoat, Koen Bickford, Brody Brown and Will Rauls each collected one hit.

Jackson Corp drove in the Bombers’ lone run.

Bickford suffered the loss after allowing five runs in two-thirds of an inning. Drew Haney pitched in relief and struck out four batters over 3 1/3 innings.

Brooks Robinson earned the win for Greene County Tech after striking out eight batters over five scoreless innings.

Haywood and Cancilla each drove in two runs for the Golden Eagles, who also drew 12 walks in the game.
