The man who was arrested over the weekend for stealing money from a tip jar at the Serenity thrift store bonded out of jail Monday, but was back in jail less than five hours later after he was arrested for stealing money off a table at a local restaurant. Forty-six-year-old Robert Joseph Bundy also didn’t pay for his meal.
According to the incident report from the Mountain Home Police Department, after getting out of jail, Bundy went to Jamie’s Local Flavor Restaurant to eat and apply for a job. After meeting with the manager, Bundy picked up his plate of food, waited for a server at an adjacent table to leave, removed approximately $40 in cash from that table and then left the restaurant with the cash and without paying for his $27 worth of food.

After watching the surveillance video, the officer identified Bundy as the suspect at started searching for him.

Bundy was located about 90 minutes later in the parking lot of another local business. He was taken into custody and the officer noticed the smell of marijuana and intoxicating beverages in his vehicle. A subsequent search revealed a plastic baggie containing marijuana, a marijuana pipe and two open beer cans.

Bundy repeatedly asked if he could return to the restaurant and work things out instead of going to jail. The officer denied the request, telling Bundy the restaurant had attempted to contact him to resolve the matter before filing the police report.

Bundy is facing misdemeanor charges of theft of property less than $1,000, possession of schedule VI controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and open container of alcohol in a vehicle. His bond is set at $2,220.

PREVIOUS ARREST

Bundy was arrested Saturday morning for stealing cash out of the tip jar at The Donation Station, a thrift store in the College Plaza operated by Serenity, the non-profit that offers domestic support and shelter in Mountain Home.

Police were able to review surveillance video and one of them recognized Bundy from a prior encounter with him. He was subsequently located sitting in a vehicle, still in the parking lot. After taking him into custody, officers found $11.28 in cash in Bundy’s pants pocket.

He was charged with a misdemeanor of theft of property.
