JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – A crane has been set up on Arkansas State University’s campus as crews work to restore the university’s bell tower and clock. The project has been in the works for nearly a year, after the clock’s motor drive failed and the bells stopped working.
New clock hands, a new center drive, and a retuned carillon are all part of the upgrade.

Shawn Brewer, project manager with the plan, design, and construction office, told KAIT News the campus community will enjoy the restoration.
“A lot of people that look up there and can see that it’s been almost eight o’clock for about a year now, because the motor of the clock hands has went out, the bells have quit working,” Brewer said. “So, just to get everything refurbished, renewed and back up and running, I think the campus community will enjoy it.”
Construction is expected to wrap up by the end of the week.
