
The Mountain Home City Council is set to hear the third and final reading of an ordinance that would create new positions of assistant chiefs for both the police and fire departments when it meets in regular session Thursday evening at 6.
Following the council’s last meeting, Mayor Hillrey Adams told KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot news Mountain Home is probably one of few cities of its size in the area without an officially designated assistant chief in each department. Mayor Adams says the topic of assistant chiefs in one he had with Manuel and Williams soon after he took office in January.

Mayor Adams says both departments have had assistant chiefs in the past. However, primarily due to budget constraints, the slots have not been filled for some time.
Adams says the passage of a 3/8 percent sales tax in 2017 dedicated to public safety is making this discussion possible.

If the council opts to fund the positions for the assistant chiefs and the slots are filled, Adams says that does not mean the new assistant chiefs will assume the helms of the departments.

In other business, the council will consider an ordinance amending the contracted water rates between the city and its wholesale purchasers. The members are also set to discuss the medical insurance plan for city employees.
The meeting will be held in the council chambers of the Municipal Building.
