Hynde also appears in the video for “You Can’t Let Go,” which premiered Monday on Century Media Records’ YouTube channel. The clip features footage of the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer singing the tune with The Picturebooks in a rehearsal space and also joining the guys — singer/guitarist Fynn Claus Grabke and drummer Philipp Mirtschink — for a motorcycle ride.
In a statement, the duo notes that they first met Hynde when The Picturebooks and The Pretenders both played the Harley Davidson Motorcycle and Rock Festival in St. Tropez, during which Chrissie told them that she loved their band.
A few months later, the duo sent Hynde a text asking if she would sing on their next album, and Chrissie quickly responded, wanting to hear the song.
“We weren’t just really surprised, but we also needed a song specifically for her,” The Picturebooks explain. “Two days later we sent what we had and she immediately agreed to record with us.”
They add, “Much to our surprise she was also totally down to be in the music video, too. After checking our music videos she insisted on riding motorcycles with us as well!”
As previously reported, Hynde and The Pretenders will be hitting the road with Journey this year for a major joint U.S. tour that kicks off May 15 in Ridgefield, Washington.
