
Those who fish at McCabe Park should make note of new regulations for the facility, as breaking the rules could end up earning a citation from the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission (AGFC) or the Mountain Home Police Department.At Thursday night’s regular monthly meeting of the Mountain Home City Council, members approved an ordinance that prohibits the taking of any bass from the fishing ponds. Anglers are also now limited to just three fish per day at the facility.Mountain Home Mayor Hillrey Adams says the change was needed due to public reports of overfishing, which defeats the planned purpose of the ponds.

The new regulations were crafted with input from the AGFC, according to the mayor.

The penalty for violations could range from a minimum of $300 to $1,000, according to the ordinance.
Also enacted was an ordinance dealing with unsightly and nuisance properties in the city. The ordinance now finds that grass that is 9 inches high will qualify as unsightly, a change for the previous 12 inches that were considered a violation.
Adams says the move will allow the city to take quicker action against the owners of problem properties.

The third and final ordinance approved was an annual housekeeping measure involving the City of Mountain Home doing business with employees. Adams says there are several city workers that have built home businesses doing work for the city.

The council also heard an update on a condemned property located at 819 Cedar Street. Previously, the owner had been granted a reprieve of sorts, but Adams says the city will now take action.
