The driver of a vehicle that crashed in Searcy County last week, flipping on the driver’s side, then onto its top before rolling back onto its wheels, has been arrested.The accident sent the passenger in the vehicle, Bryan G. Willcutt, whose age and address were not available, to North Arkansas Medical Center in Harrison before being transported to UAMS in Little Rock in serious condition.While en route to Little Rock, law enforcement was advised Willcutt’s blood pressure dropped to a dangerously low level, requiring emergency services personnel to stop at the Ozark Health Medical Center in Clinton for an emergency stabilizing surgery.
According to the probable cause affidavit, 35-year-old Mollie E. Chisum of Marshall has been charged with a felony count of second-degree battery involving a motor vehicle, along with misdemeanors of reckless driving with physical injury and driving while intoxicated.
The one-vehicle crash was reported at 12:30 a.m. on Arkansas Highway 278 near Bear Creek Road.
Evidence at the scene indicated Chisum’s vehicle went off the roadway to the right, overcorrected back onto the pavement, flipped over on its driver side in the ditch line and slid. The vehicle then flipped over onto its top rotating approximately 90 degrees clockwise before flipping back over onto its wheels and rolling down a slight incline.
In an interview at the Searcy County Detention Center, Chisum reportedly said she was driving toward Tilly talking to Willcut when her vehicle went off the road. She allegedly told law enforcement she had left a party where she had a “watermelon something and a beer.”
Her bond was set at $10,000.
