Officers from the U.S. Marshals Service and a federal special reaction team arrived in Searcy County last week to locate and arrest 65-year-old Kenneth David Harris. Searcy County Sheriff Kenny Cassesll says Harris was taken into custody at his residence along Arkansas Highway 14 and transported to a federal holding facility.

Sheriff Cassell says Harris was on federal probation. While on probation, he allegedly committed an additional state crime involving narcotics equipment.

No other details on the alleged crime were provided.

Harris was one of six Searcy County residents arrested in February 2019 following a joint investigation between the sheriff’s office and the 20th Judicial Drug Task Force.

The simultaneous search of three residences in Searcy County resulted in the seizure of narcotics, drug paraphernalia, weapons, money and vehicles by law enforcement officials.

Harris was charged with 10 counts of possession of meth or cocaine with intent to deliver; use or possession or paraphernalia to manufacture meth or cocaine; possession of a controlled substance Schedule I/II not meth or cocaine; offenses relating to records maintaining premises; possession of a controlled substance Schedule IV/V; and possession of a controlled substance Schedule IV.

Online records indicate the state did not pursue these charges due to federal prosecution.

In Harris’ arrest last week, Sheriff Cassell says the 20th Judicial Drug Task Force, under the direction of Prosecutor Carol Crews, was also involved.

Searcy County Chief Deputy Dewayne Pierce says, “Other arrests are expected. Federal, state and local agencies have joined forces to dismantle the drug trade in our area. If you are involved in illegal drugs, or illegal activity, you will be arrested, and you will pay the consequences for your actions.”
