LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) reminds drivers to “know before you go” and visit IDriveArkansas.com before traveling during the holiday season from Christmas Eve through Jan. 4.

The website includes details regarding extensive highway improvements across the state, including two in North Central Arkansas.

In Baxter County, traffic is alternating to one lane on Arkansas 177 across Norfork Dam 24 hours per day.

In Boone county, traffic is reduced to one lane in both directions on U.S. Highway 65 for 1 mile near Harrison.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommend you stay home as much as possible during the coronavirus pandemic, but if you choose to travel there are several things to consider before you go. Visit the CDC’s webpage on Travel in the US for their official guidance.

Extensive highway improvements continue throughout the state; with those improvements come work zones. To aid in your holiday travel, ARDOT has been working hard to open as many lanes as possible. Still, travelers will likely face work zones and possible delays due to increased traffic volume.

In addition to the closures, there will be sporadic closures along U.S. Highway 65 in Pulaski County, as contractors replace overhead signage. The work is weather dependent, so ARDot is unable to create a deliberate schedule for the work. Closures will be short, perhaps a quarter mile at most and are all scheduled to occur during nighttime hours to have the smallest impact on traffic possible.

Traffic will be controlled by traffic cones and signage. Drivers should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones.
