MHHS gets swept at home by West Memphis

The Mountain Home High School basketball teams had a rough night, as they were swept in their last home games of non-conference play at the hands of West Memphis. Matt Sharp has the details.

The Lady Bombers began the night by falling to the Lady Blue Devils 62-45. While West Memphis had the lead throughout the game, it was kept close in the first half. The Lady Blue Devils’ advantage was five points at the break, but they took over from there, mainly on the play of point guard Janiya Tucker. West Memphis built a lead as big as 20 before going on to win by 17.
Kate Gilbert led Mountain Home with 20 points, and Addison Yates added 19. For the Lady Blue Devils, Tucker scored 26 points, and Terika Inmon and Clemesha Prackett chipped in 10 each.
The Lady Bombers fall to 1-9 on the season. West Memphis improves to 5-3.

The evening wrapped up with Mountain Home losing the boys’ game 52-40 to the Blue Devils. The Bombers jumped out early, as they scored the first nine points. West Memphis came back and took its lead in the second quarter and went into the locker room up one. The two teams swapped leads to start the second half. The game was tied at 26 in the third quarter, but the Blue Devils finished the period on a 15-2 run. Mountain Home cut the margin back to single digits late in the final quarter, but West Memphis eventually posted the 12-point victory.
The Bombers were led by Wyatt Gilbert with 23 points. Jordan Mitchell had 19 points for the Blue Devils, and Kameron Barnes finished with 17.
Mountain Home drops to 4-4 on the year. West Memphis is now 3-7.

Both Mountain Home teams will return to the road Saturday, as they face Jonesboro in their non-conference finales.
