Arkansas rises to No. 1 after another wild weekend around college baseball. The Razorbacks have opened the season at 7-0 and this week won five games.
Arkansas first completed its sweep through the State Farm College Baseball Showdown in Arlington Texas, before returning home to sweep a four-game series against Southeast Missouri State. It is now ranked No. 1 for the first time in the history of the Baseball America rankings, which dates to 1981.
For the second straight week, the top three teams in the Top 25 posted losing weekends. As a result, the top of the rankings again got a shakeup.
Mississippi State, which on Monday finished off a winning weekend in Arlington and then returned home to win a series against Tulane, jumps to No. 2. Vanderbilt, which went 6-1 on the week, rises to No. 3. Louisville and Mississippi round out the top five.
Three new teams enter the Top 25 this week. Virginia Tech, North Carolina and Boston College enter at Nos. 16-18 after big series wins to open ACC play. The Hokies are ranked for the first time since the final 2013 rankings, when they were No. 19. The Eagles are ranked for the first time since finishing the 2016 season at No. 16.
Falling out of the Top 25 are Duke, Florida State and North Carolina State, which all lost home series to open ACC play.
