MHHS gets 2 wins at Branson, sweeps Mount Vernon

The Mountain Home Bomber Basketball teams went north of the border to Missouri and held on for two nail biting victories on the first night of the Branson Battle at the Border.

The Lady Bombers began their title defense of the Branson Battle at the Border and got a 4-2 lead at the 7:02 mark in the first quarter and never relinquished the lead in a game that got as close as one possession late but ended up being a 27-22 victory. The Lady Bombers controlled nearly all of the first half and took at 15-6 lead into the halftime break. Mountain Home was able to end the third quarter with a 20-11 lead, but the fourth quarter was where the Lady Mountaineers finally warmed up. Mount Vernon was able to double their scoring output from the first three quarters in the fourth quarter and got as close as 25-22 but got no closer as Kamryn Mullin hit four straight free throws in the fourth quarter to ice the victory for the Lady Bombers. Parker Huskey lead all scorers with seven points.

Mount Vernon falls to 1-2 on the season, and the Lady Bombers jump to 1-2 on the season.

Mountain Home’s boys followed with a close 47-44 victory over the Mountaineers. The Bombers started moderately slow, as they took a 10-8 lead after the first stanza but sped up in the second quarter, as they took a 24-15 lead into the halftime break. In the third period, the Bombers led by as much as 13, but the Mountaineers were able to take a one-point lead in the fourth quarter on 27 second half points by Mount Vernon’s Kai Brown,who ended with 35 points. Mountain Home’s Reed Ellison and Luke Proctor both finished with 14 points, and Braiden Dewey finished with 10 points.

Mount Vernon is now 0-1, and the Bombers move to 1-2.

Both Bomber basketball squads will continue the Branson Battle at the Border Friday, as they meet Lake Hamilton.
