Saturday basketball results include Gainesville boys winning Forsyth Tournament

The Gainesville High School boys’ basketball team was able to wrap up the week by taking home the championship trophy of the Forsyth Tournament. The Bulldogs got past Hollister 60-56 in Saturday’s title game.

The Izard County Invitational Tournament got underway at Izard County High School in Brockwell with Salem winning the first senior girls’ game. The Lady Greyhounds defeated the host Lady Cougars 65-16.
Rural Special ended up getting eliminated from the senior boys’ bracket. The Rebels fell to Cave City by a final of 77-38.
Melbourne was able to sweep Rural Special in both of the junior high games in the tournament. The Junior Bearkatz won the boys’ game 54-18, and Melbourne also took the girls’ contest 50-7.

Marshall’s boys ended the week as the runners-up of the Bev Stone Border Classic at Omaha. The Bobcats suffered an 88-40 loss to the New School in the title game.
Jasper ended up in second place on the girls’ side of the tournament. The Lady Pirates fell to Kingston by a score of 63-43.

The Bergman boys dominated their way to the championship of the Duel at the Dome at West Fork. The Panthers invoked the mercy rule, as they beat up on the host Tigers 78-47.

Both Harrison teams finished fourth in the Willard Basketball Classic. The Goblins lost the boys’ third place game 84-68 to Greenwood from Springfield, and Harrison’s girls fell to Blue Springs 70-46.
