Due to rising costs, Fulton County Judge Gary Clayton and County Sheriff Joe Boshears have been working on a project to place a fueling station at the sheriff’s office.

Area Wide Media reports the fueling station will be gasoline only. Diesel, which is also rising, will still be available to county vehicles at the county yard. Clayton expressed concern over rising diesel, it is projected to seriously impact the county road department.

A supplier from Mountain Home will install the fueling station at no cost to Fulton county. Since the supplier will provide the gasoline tax-free, the county is hoping to save 40 – 60 cents per gallon of gasoline.

County employees using the fueling station to fill county vehicles will track usage on their cellphones on a fuel management system. This will enable the county to determine which department is using fuel and how much, allowing the county to draw funds from the various county department’s budget.

The City of Salem has expressed interest in joining this project as well as the 911 coordinator.

The fuel management system will cost $480 a year to maintain data for billing and other purposes.
