The Cotter School Board didn’t have to look far to find a replacement for current superintendent Vanessa Thomas-Jones who resigned last month effective at the end of June. The board Thursday night voted to hire her husband, Jayme Jones to become the school’s new superintendent.

Jones is currently the assistant high school and elementary principal at Marshall High School, coming out of retirement to take the job which came open just before the school year started. Jones has 33 years in education, 15 years as a coach and 18 as an administrator.

He says he is excited to become superintendent at Cotter, knowing the school is in great shape.

Jones was a longtime basketball and baseball coach in the area. He started at Lead Hill, went to Harrison Junior High, was an assistant for former Mountain Home Athletic Director Jerry Bridges at Fort Smith Southside and finished coaching for eight years at Valley Springs. He then went into administration, serving as principal at Marshall, Guy-Perkins, Western Grove and Bruno-Pyatt before spending five years as superintendent at the Ozark Mountain School District for five years. He had been retired two years before his current position at Marshall.

Vanessa Thomas-Jones resigned as Cotter superintendent last month and accepted the position of curriculum director at the Flippin School District.

In other personnel matters approved by the Cotter School Board Thursday night, Jackson Rains resigned as track coach but was hired as golf coach, Christian Back was hired as summer league coordinator and the board accepted the resignation of teacher Rebecca Strong.
