MHHS among baseball, softball teams begiinning state tournaments Thursday

Baseball and softball make up much of the local Thursday schedule as state tournaments get underway in Arkansas.

The Mountain Home High School baseball team will be in Marion for one of the opening games in the Class 5A State Tournament. The Bombers will be paired with Valley View in the first round.
Mountain Home enters the tournament with a record of 18-9. The Bombers finished tied for third in the 5A-West, but they ended up as the No. 4 seed after losing the tiebreaker to Van Buren.
Valley View comes into the postseason as the champions of the 5A-East with a mark of 26-4, and they have spent nearly the entire year as the top-ranked team in Class 5A. Mountain Home head coach Greg Crow says his team will need to play smart and limit mistakes against this Blazer squad.

The first pitch at First National Bank of Eastern Arkansas Stadium is scheduled for 10. Thursday’s game will be streamed live on the Bomber Sports Network on YouTube.

Cotter will compete in the Class 2A State Baseball Tournament hosted by Greenland. The Warriors’ opener will be in Prairie Grove as they meet Cedar Ridge at 5:30.

Three area baseball teams will begin action in the Class 1A State Tournament hosted by Taylor. At Taylor High School, Lead Hill gets underway against the host school at 10, and Norfork faces Nemo Vista at 12:30. Viola takes on Wonderview at 3 on the campus of Bradley High School.

Melbourne’s baseball team will be in Lincoln to wrap up the opening round of the Class 3A State Tournament. The Bearkatz will play Central Arkansas Christian at 5:30.

The Mountain Home High School softball team will also have the morning session to open the Class 5A State Tournament at Marion. The Lady Bombers get started against Greene County Tech.
Mountain Home finished the regular season at 15-10. The Lady Bombers are the fourth-seeded team from the 5A-West. Mountain Home head coach Blake Hendricks says the team is excited to be getting back to the postseason.

Tech is currently 21-5 on the year. The Lady Eagles enter the tournament as the 5A-East conference champions.

Harrison will also compete in the tournament on Marion’s new field. The Lady Goblins will be matched up with the host Lady Patriots at 5:30.

Three area softball teams will take part in the Class 1A State Tournament hosted by Taylor. At Bradley High School, Calico Rock gets underway with Bradford at 10, and Jasper faces Emerson at 5:30. At Taylor High School, Viola takes on Nemo Vista at 12:30.

Three more area softball teams will be in Lincoln for the Class 3A State Tournament. Valley Springs plays Dumas at 10, Melbourne goes up against Lamar at 12:30, and Salem meets Atkins at 5:30.

In Missouri, a state tournament bid is on the line for Ava’s softball team as they compete in the title game of the Class 2, District 4 Tournament. Ava will face another group of Lady Bears from Willow Springs at 5.
