An Izard County man has been arrested after failing to comply with registration requirements as a registered sex offender.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the Izard County Sheriff’s Office received a report on June 20 from an Arkansas Community Corrections agent about a registered sex offender driving a vehicle not registered to him.

The agent told deputies they observed 38-year-old Chad Langston driving a dark red SUV which had not been registered to him in compliance with the Arkansas Sex Offender Registration Act of 1997. Langston’s only registered vehicle was a silver SUV. Authorities state from June 20 through June 30, Langston was seen driving the dark red SUV multiple times, including at least one trip to the Izard County Detention Center to bring items to an incarcerated individual.

On June 30, investigators attempted to speak with Langston, but he declined to speak without an attorney present. Authorities observed the vehicle did not have a license plate and showed registration and inspection stickers from New York and Missouri.

The Arkansas Sex Offender Registration Act mandates a registered sex offender to report any change in vehicle make, model, color and license tag number they own, operate or has access to. They also have five calendar dates to update their information.

Langston faces one felony count of failure to comply with registration and reporting requirements with an enhancement of habitual offender. He is currently being held in the Izard County Detention Center on $10,000 bond.
