A group branding itself as a nonpartisan movement of public school advocates in Arkansas is seeking to get the LEARNS Act before the voters as a ballot measure next year. The Citizens for Arkansas Public Education and Students (CAPES) are holding a petition drive at a few locations in Mountain Home this weekend.

The first drive-through signing period will be at the L.S. Sammons Youth Center parking lot in Cooper Park Saturday morning from 8 to 10. Saturday’s second drive-through signing will be from 11 to 3 at the parking lot of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church at 511 Coley Drive. Voters will have one more opportunity to sign the petition Sunday from 11 to 2 at the Mountain Home Plaza 2000 across from the Baxter County Courthouse.

A potential signee must be a registered voter in Arkansas. July 31 is the deadline for petitions to be filed with the Secretary of State in Little Rock.
