During a special work session, the Mountain Home Public Schools Board of Education met Tuesday night to review a Board social contract, goals for the year along with voting on updates for the high school track.

Auxiliary Services Director Chris Knight stated Beynon Sports Company, who were approved in February to resurface the high school track, has failed to meet multiple project deadlines including the project completion by the end June. Knight recommended to the Board to endorse the termination of the current contract with Beynon Sports with approval from the district lawyer, and enter into a contract with a new company, who was the second lowest bidder, from Iowa. The new contract will save the district approximately $30,000 for a total cost of $199,105.

Knight stated once the previous contact was vacated and the new one signed, the plan would be for the company to start work the day after Homecoming on Oct. 7. The project is expected to take 14 days, pending weather conditions. He stated the company would require conditions to be above 55 degrees and dry.

The Board unanimously approved the contract termination with Beynon Sports along with proceeding with the new resurfacing company.

In addition, the Board held a work session to work on a social contract amongst members on how they would like to work together for the upcoming year. A few items included things such as respect, communication, transparency and remembering the why. The Board also discussed holding open meetings on each school campus once a month.

The Board concluded the work session with reviewing and setting goals for the 2023-24 school year such as more community involvement, evaluating block scheduling, on grade ready by the end of 3rd grade, increasing student enrollment, and the possibility of adding a firefighter certification program.
